In terms of potential savings, the numbers relating to energy efficiency in Texas are staggering.
A recent report by the Texas Comptroller's office concluded that simple solutions can help Texas homeowners save between 20 and 30 percent on their electric bills, an average savings of between $1,700 and $2,500 over five to seven years, amounting to nearly $2 billion in annual statewide savings. Texas leads the nation in energy production and consumption,¨ said Curtis Seidlits, a TexasIsHot Coalition spokesperson. Increased energy efficiency is the easiest, quickest and cleanest option to lower electric bills, help the environment, and promote our state and nation's energy independence. But, energy efficiency can sometimes sound intimidating because people think it will cost them something. The TexasIsHot campaign is working to change this perception by providing Texans with simple tips, easy to use tool,s and real-time information to decrease their energy consumption -- and save money in the process.¨

By partnering with PEC, TexasIsHot hopes to help change habits, lower consumption, and help Texans save billions of dollars.
By combining our efforts towards energy efficiency we hope to make Texas a leader in energy efficiency. Together we can develop a more energy conscious consumer that not only embraces, but demands the type of energy future our two programs hope to achieve. The Internet has changed the way people get their information and in the age of Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and text message campaigns, our communication is on the cutting edge of information delivery. We want to make it as easy as possible for Texans to make energy efficiency a normal part of everyday life.

About Pedernales Electric Cooperative:

As stewards of the environment, PEC is committed to providing members with resources that make it easier to conserve electricity and make environmentally friendly choices. This means providing practical, money-saving conservation tips and information that can help members make a difference economically and environmentally. Current climate conditions require everyone to take a look at their environment impact. This includes PEC. We're making strides toward increasing efforts in the areas of conservation, renewable energy, and environmentally friendly business practices. In 2008 PEC passed two aggressive environmental resolutions: the first set a goal to reduce future residential and commercial electric use by up to 20 percent; the second set a goal to purchase or generate up to 30 percent of our electricity from renewable sources by 2020. These two resolutions, in addition to a renewable energy purchase 90 megawatts of wind power, reinforce PEC's commitment to supporting increased environmental practices. These and other environmental efforts are all part of PEC's Green Works initiative.
