Farmers develops ‘green’ homeowners insurance policy in Texas
"This is quite literally an investment in our global future." Customers who add Farmers’ “Eco-Rebuild” option to their homeowners’ policies will have access, as part of claims, to $25,000 to rebuild or replace a home using “green” materials, upgrade qualified homes to meet Energy Star requirements and be reimbursed for recycling debris rather than disposing of it.

HEB gets greener with solar power
"We are continually pushing for more energy efficiency all across our stores." The company has a history of experimenting with energy-saving measures, Lockett said. Programs that began on a trial basis, such as freezer lights that turn on only when a customer opens the door, are now common in new stores.

USAA Real Estate once again honored for energy efficiency
San Antonio-based USAA Real Estate Co. is the only real estate company in America that has won seven Energy Star awards. Nationwide, American saved $19 billion on their energy bills last year and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by an equivalent of 29 million vehicles by investing in Energy Star products, services, new homes and buildings, according to the EPA.

Some 32,000 Energy Star houses were built last year in Texas -- five times as many as in the No. 2 Energy Star state, Arizona.
