Oncor installs its 2 millionth ‘smart’ meter
Oncor Electric Delivery has installed its 2 millionth “smart” meter, in Carrollton, the electric transmission and distribution provider said Monday.
“This is a significant milestone in our efforts to install more than three million advanced meters throughout our service area by the end of 2012,” said Jim Greer, senior vice president of asset management and engineering, in a statement.
The company is “absolutely” expecting to install meters at all its locations within that long-scheduled timeframe, spokeswoman Catherine Cuellar said.
Oncor plans to continue installing smart meters in Tarrant County and western Dallas County throughout the year.
By year’s end, most county residents should have an advanced meter, except for a substantial portion of Northeast Tarrant County, where they will be installed next year, according to a timetable and map on the Oncor website at www.oncor.com/tech_reliable/smarttexas/deployment_map_metro.pdf.
Installations in Dallas-Fort Worth began in 2009. Oncor’s smart meters record energy usage in 15-minute intervals, giving customers access to daily and cumulative updates on how much electricity they use.
