KB Home Announces Partnership with Build San Antonio Green

KB Home and Build San Antonio Green(R) (BSAG) today announced the start of their partnership by recognizing KB Home’s first BSAG Certified home during a special event held at KB Home’s La Fontana community. The first certified home actually goes above and beyond the BSAG program’s guidelines and it is also KB Home’s first net-zero energy home, dubbed ZeroHouse 2.0, in San Antonio.

“KB Home is proud to be partnering with Build San Antonio Green to help area residents save money and energy by constructing homes that meet this organization’s stringent guidelines,” said Ken Langston, president of KB Home’s Central Texas division. “Our new ZeroHouse 2.0 and all of our new Built to Order(TM) homes in San Antonio include high-performance products and incorporate efficient construction techniques and technologies in order to deliver an attractive new home with proven value to our customers.”

Bexar County Precinct 4 Commissioner Tommy Adkisson, chairman of the BSAG Board, and Langston placed the official BSAG certified sign in front of the home before a crowd of gathered community officials, KB Home employees and partners, as well as members of the media.

“Build San Antonio Green applauds KB Home for their commitment to sustainable construction practices and is pleased to welcome them to our team,” said Anita Devora, Executive Director for BSAG. “Their commitment to our program shows homebuyers and the marketplace that going ‘green’ makes good sense for not only the environment, but also for their business and for their customers.”

In addition to being ENERGY STAR(R) qualified, beginning December 1, all new homes built in KB Home’s communities in San Antonio will be BSAG Certified. Homes built to BSAG’s Certification are at least 15% more energy efficient than standard municipal code requirements. BSAG’s certification requirements include energy and water efficiency and indoor air quality standards to help ensure a higher performing home and more healthful living environment.

Additionally, with the introduction of ZeroHouse 2.0 to San Antonio, homebuyers may even be able to eliminate their monthly electricity charges entirely if they incorporate the ZeroHouse 2.0 energy efficiency options into their home at the KB Home Studio, some of which are visible and some hidden behind the walls. The higher efficiency of the ZeroHouse 2.0 is the result of a whole-home approach, from the inside out, that begins with increased insulation, upgraded HVAC systems and dual-pane, low-e windows and ends with solar panels on the roof.

KB Home’s ENERGY STAR and BSAG Certified qualified home designs, as well as ZeroHouse 2.0 efficiency options, are available at all of KB Home’s communities throughout the San Antonio market. To learn more, and locate a community near you, visit kbhome.com or call 888-KB-HOMES.
