EARTH DAY 2010 – 40th Anniversary is April 22, 2010
“A little energy goes a long way.” While we have been promotiong this message for the past year to show small changes in energy use can have an impact on your electric bill, Earth Day is a celebration of how changes in behavior – whether related to energy consumption, water use, recycling, etc. – can have an impact on our environment.
The 40th Earth Day celebration is this Thursday, April 22.
Information to Note:
Eligible Appliances: Rebates will be available for ENERGY STAR rated refrigerators, freezers, room air conditioners, clothes washers, dishwashers, central air conditioners, air source heat pumps, and hot water heaters. See full list of eligible appliances. To be eligible for an appliance rebate, an older, functional appliance must be replaced and disposed of properly. Appliances must be removed from the home and disposed of so they cannot be reused, refurbished or re-sold.
Rebate Amounts: For clothes washers, dishwashers, central air conditioners, heat pumps and hot water heaters, rebate amounts will be determined by energy efficiency level or appliance type. You can qualify for rebates for up to two appliances from the approved rebate appliance list.
Rebate Timing: The mail-in rebates will apply to eligible appliances purchased between April 16 and April 25, 2010. After the reserved mail-in rebates are awarded, any remaining funds will be rebated to consumers on a first-come, first-served basis.
Recycling Rebate: Residents interested in qualifying for the bonus $75 recycling rebate must go the extra step to recycle their old appliance. This means the old appliance is removed from the home by the retailer, contractor or resident and taken to a recycling facility.
Retailer Opportunities: In addition to the rebate, some retailers, including Sears, are running sales on energy efficient appliances as well as offering recycling services and promotions. Check with your local retailers to find out what opportunities are available.
Important: Rebate program will not be retroactive. It will only apply to purchases made once the purchase period officially begins, April 16-25.
