Time for Energy Efficiency Improvements
Last summer, single family homes served by Austin Energy set record electric usage every month from May through September. The record heat was a major factor, although customers routinely use 2-4 times more electricity during summer than any other time of the year due to air conditioning. In fact, more than 40% of the total electricity used by residential customers annually is consumed during the four summer months of June, July, August, and September.

Over the last five fiscal years, more than 31,000 residential customers used rebates or loans to make energy efficiency improvements such as replacing inefficient air conditioners, adding insulation, or sealing ducts.
