Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program
April 2010

More than $23 Million in Rebates to Texas Consumers
Mark your calendar for the April 16-25, 2010 Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program - where Texans across the state can get money back on new appliance purchases.
April could mean substantial rebates for eligible Texans looking to replace certain older appliances with new Energy Star-rated appliances. The state of Texas received more than $23 million from the U.S. Department of Energy to establish an Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program, the first of its kind in Texas. The state of Texas will administer the rebates through the Comptroller’s State Energy Conservation Office (SECO).
While SECO will announce the rebate instructions shortly, below is an overview of the program.
Information to Note:
- Eligible appliances: Rebates will be available for ENERGY STAR rated refrigerators, freezers, room air conditioners, clothes washers, dishwashers, central air conditioners, air source heat pumps, and hot water heaters. For clothes washers, dishwashers, central air conditioners, heat pumps and hot water heaters, rebate amounts will be determined by energy efficiency level or appliance type.
- Rebate Amounts: Rebate levels are determined by the appliance type and energy efficiency. See below for a detailed listing of appliance rebate offers.
- Timing: The mail-in rebates will apply to eligible appliances purchased between April 16 and April 25, 2010. The 10-day period will coincide with Earth Day.
- Process: Consumers will have an opportunity to reserve an appliance rebate by calling a toll-free number or registering online approximately two weeks prior to April 16, 2010. After the reserved mail-in rebates are awarded, any remaining funds will be rebated to consumers on a first-come, first-served basis. Shoppers will be limited to two appliance rebates and two recycling rebates per household. Specific instructions, which will likely include an 800 number and online reservations, will be made available by SECO closer to the program’s launch date in April. We will keep you posted.
- Important: Rebate program will not be retroactive.
It will only apply to purchases made once the purchase period officially begins, April 16-25.
Participants must retire an older appliance for a new, energy-efficient model to receive a mail-in rebate.
