Austin Energy is offering an additional $200 in rebates to customers that replace air conditioners with energy-efficient versions.
From Jan. 1 through March 15, homeowners that make improvements recommended through an energy assessment will receive up $1,550 in rebates, or about $200 more than previous incentives.
Program participants can also earn as much as $300 in rebates from Texas Gas Service and a federal tax credit up to $500.
Rebates can be applied to new air conditioners, an energy-efficient heat pump, attic insulation, caulking around plumbing under sinks, weather stripping around entry doors, duct sealing and solar screens. Special incentives are also available for replacing gas furnaces.
More than 3,000 residential customers have made all the recommended improvements to their home by participating in the Austin Energy Home Performance with Energy Star program.
